The CQSS is an all new concept...not a rehash of an old idea.
In the past open shooters had little choice of where to mount a red dot.
In the past Tac optic shooters had little choice of iron side sights
The CQSS mounts a C-more STS or an AR15 A-2 rear sight at the very back of the reciever where you need it to be.
Most of us open shooters have used a C-more mounted on the hand guard at 45 degrees...How many times has the C-more been crashed into a barracade?
All of the mounts I have seen use the 45 degree offset...ever notice how the main optic is is in the way of your left eye?
Close transitions covered up by the main optic?....tiny field of view thru a C-more mounted at arms length?
The CQSS addresses all of those issues and more.
And for the Tac optic guys...dont like a short sight radius on your side sight?...not fond of pistol type sights or other funky sight systems?
Would you like to keep the handguard clean of stuff hanging on it...do you want your REAL rifle sights back?
The CQSS system mounts on the LOWER reciever..on the buffer tube and the rear of the lower reciever...
This places the sight behind the ejection port very close to your eye...giving you a very large field of view
I also place the optic plane in the exact level of an A-2 sight...BUT at 65 degrees, this gets your main optic out of your vision.
It gives you an unobstructed view with both eyes...and allows you to use standard AR15 front sights mounted to the barrel.(full sight radius)
